iGEMでは、参加するチームが大会の前に、自分たちのプロジェクトを説明するためのプロモーションビデオ(2分程度)の発表があります。このプロモーションビデオは、全チームが発表するものであり、その年のチームのプロジェクトの概要が掴めるようになっています。

本記事では、iGEM 2021年に日本から参加する、8チームのプレゼンテーションビデオについて、紹介していきたいと思います。

ASIJ 

Title: ABrCaDaBra

Description: Breast cancer affects millions of people around the world. Despite advancements in technology, the lack of testing has caused breast cancer to emerge as a fatal disease. ASIJ_Tokyo presents ABrCaDaBra, an aptamer-based cancer detection test that is accessible and less invasive to women of all ages.

ASIJチームは、ASIJ(アメリカンスクール・イン・ジャパン)に所属する高校生を中心としたチームです。iGEM 2021では、癌の診断可能な簡易キットの作成を、cell-free systemを利用し、アプタマーの技術を活用することで達成することを目指しています。

Gunma

Title: Breakdown Biofilms in Baths

Description: Gunma is famous for hot springs, so we want to tackle a problem related to the hotsprings. Legionella is one of the problem. However it is protected by biofilms and this makes sterrilzation of bacteria very difficult. Our team decided to find a method to break down biofilm.

Gunmaチームは、群馬大学に所属する学生を中心としたチームです。iGEM 2021では、温泉が多い群馬ならではな、温泉施設に発生するバイオフィルムの分解を行うために、バイオフィルムに含まれる糖を分解する酵素を利用することで、分解の促進を行うことを目指しています。

Title: Synbio Bandage for Care in an Aging Population

Description: Our project aims to develop a synbio adhesive bandage to treat bedsores. Yeasts in the bandage monitor the condition of wounds by oxygen concentration and sanitize them with antimicrobial peptides. Our solution tackles the crucial problem of an aging population by facilitating the care of bedsores.

UTokyoチームは、東京大学を中心としたチームです。iGEM 2021では、床ずれの治療のために、酵素の状態に応じて、抗菌ペプチドを生産する酵母ベースの絆創膏の開発を目指しています。

TokyoTech

Title: Lacteeth

Description: Our project aims to develop new probiotics that continuously prevent dental caries with engineered Lactococcus lactis. We designed Lactococcus lactis which is able to bind specifically to biofilm and diffuse growth inhibitors against bacteria causing dental caries. We hope that our project contributes to the world without dental caries.

TokyoTechチームは、東京工業大学を中心としたチームです。iGEM 2021では、虫歯のもととなるグルカンを中心とした細菌が合成するバイオフィルムの発生を防ぐために、グルカン結合タンパク質と成長阻害分子を生産する、Lactococcus lactis ベースのプロバイオティクスの開発を目指しています。

KAIT_Japan

Title: Create a super E. coli!

Description: We aim to make E. coli more useful by combing it with the useful functions of other various microbes used in fermented foods.

KAIT_Japanチームは、神奈川工科大学を中心としたチームです。iGEM 2021では、E.coliを食糧生産に使用できるようにするために、ラクターゼやグルコースの生産などをできるように、様々な酵素を組み合わせて発現させることを目指しています。

Gifu

Title: Quantification of stress by human herpesvirus 6 as a biomarker

Description: The goal of our project is to create a device to quantify HHV-6. Stress often causes physical problems and can also lead to mental illnesses such as depression. However, stress tends to be neglected due to the difficulty of quantitative measurement of stress. We will offer a new method to find people who suffer from chronic stress through this project.

Gifuチームは、岐阜大学を中心としたチームです。iGEM 2021では、人のストレスを定量化するために、ストレスの度合いと相関があるとされているHHV-6 (ヒトヘルペスウイルス)の検出を行うことを目指しています。

Kyotoチームは、京都大学を中心としたチームです。iGEM 2021では、切り花を消費者に届けるために生じている多くの問題を解決するために、CRISPR-Casやisothermal PCR(等温PCR)など使用した、ウイルス/Virion (ビリオン)の検出系の開発をめざしています。さらに、害虫の被害を抑えることや、開花や老化に対してコントールするためのシステムの開発も目指しています。
